To set and customize a wordpress theme actually depends on the theme you use for your WordPress site, because every wordpress theme has its own way depending on the theme developer. In this tutorial I’ll show you how to make some changes to your site using the Customization page. In this tutorial I will use the default theme from the latest wordpress named Twenty Fifteen.
How to Customize a WordPress Theme
To start customizing your WordPress theme, please access the menu Appearance »Customize
On this page you can use it to modify your WordPress theme in real time. On the left you will see a list of options available for making changes and on the right a live preview of your site where you can see live of your changes.
How to Change WordPress Title and Tagline
On the theme customization page you can make modifications to your site title and tagline. To make changes, all you have to do is type in the site title and tagline as you wish. As you type you will see the new text appear in the preview on your right side. Once you are satisfied with the result, simply click on Save & Publish.
WordPress also allows you to choose between two options to make your homepage or frontpage You, you can choose a static page which means you display the page that you have created, the second is to display a list of the latest blog posts on the front page. This is another setting that you can configure from the theme customization page.
By default WordPress will display your latest posts on the front page or homepage. However, you can change that with the option to display static pages. Remember if you want to display a static page, you must first create a Page by accessing the menu Pages »New Page.
Additional WordPress Menu Customizations
Depending on the theme you are using there may be additional options on that page. For example, Twenty fifteen also allows you to modify the site title & background color, add a background image and much more. In this latest wordpress also provides a menu to set widgets, so you can easily set the widget area that is already provided by the wordpress theme you are using, whether it’s to adjust the sidebar or footer. Once you are satisfied with the result, simply click on the button Save & Publish to save changes.
