Guide on how to install Spotify on Ubuntu 18.04 – Spotify is a digital music streaming service that gives you instant access to millions of songs, from old classics to hit songs or the latest songs. In this tutorial guide I will show you how to install Spotify on an Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. The same steps apply for Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux distro based on any Ubuntu, including Kubuntu, Linux Mint, and Elementary OS.

How to Install Spotify on Ubuntu
Installing Spotify on Ubuntu Linux is a relatively easy process and will only take a few minutes.
Start by importing the GPG key repository using the following command:
$ sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 931FF8E79F0876134EDDBDCCA87FF9DF48BF1C90
The output will look like this:
Output gpg: key A87FF9DF48BF1C90: public key "Spotify Public Repository Signing Key " imported gpg: Total number processed: 1 gpg: imported: 1
Add it APT Repository Spotify to your system software repository list:
$ echo deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/spotify.list
Once the repository is enabled, update the source
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install spotify-client
And now Spotify has been installed on your desktop Ubuntu and soon to enjoy music from sportify.
Start Using Spotify
You can start the Spotify client either from the terminal by typing
spotify on the command line or by clicking the Spotify icon (Activities → Spotify):
When you start the Spotify application for the first time, a window like this will appear as shown below:
Here you can log in with your Spotify account or create a new one if you don’t have one.
How to Upgrade Spotify
To upgrade your Spotify client when new releases are published, you can use the normal upgrade procedure for the proper package manager:
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt upgrade
You have successfully installed Spotify on your Ubuntu 18.04 desktop. If Spotify is not available, you can use VPN service to get around this restriction.
