Firmware is very important for your camera and lens, because updating it will increase the feature set and increase performance. The process of updating firmware is relatively quick and easy, but before you start updating the firmware of your Canon EOS camera, there is a little preparation you need to do.
Make sure your battery is fully charged. Canon has a battery level check before the firmware update is implemented, so if you forget not to charge the battery, Canon will automatically remind you.
A list of the latest firmware software for Canon cameras can be found on the Canon EOS product support pages → here.
Just click the Type of your Canon camera, for example here I am using the EOS R Camera to access firmware, manuals, etc. Just click on the “EOS R” menu.
Once you have gone through the process of downloading the Canon EOS R firmware file, you will need to copy it to a blank SD Card.
The easiest way to ensure that a card is prepared for a firmware update is that you can format it on the camera. Make sure you have deleted all your pictures, videos and files from the card before you do this. Due to the firmware update, the memory must be empty.
Pop a blank card into the Canon EOS R, then tap Menu, scroll to the Spanner (Set-up) icon and page 1 and select ‘Format Card’ click OK and you’re done.
