How to Recover WordPress Password on Localhost – If you want to learn to use WordPress but are not ready with your website and still want to learn WordPress, then you don’t need to rent hosting service first but you can try it on your local machine with the help of software for a local web server like XAMPP or WAMP. You can download it for free here. You can install the local web server on various OS both windows, linux nor MacOS.
However, in this WordPress tutorial I will not discuss how to install WordPress on localhost using xampp, because I have discussed in the previous article that you can read on » How to Install WordPress on Localhost.
This WordPress tutorial I will explain how to restore or recover your WordPress login password for offline installs or restore your WordPress password on localhost, if you forget the password on WordPress on a server that is already online then you can restore that password very easily, ie by simply clicking the URL Lost Your Password? under the login field and enter our admin email then resetting your password will be sent to the email address you use for your WordPress website, but what about localhost or WordPress offline?
Why doesn’t password reset work on Localhost?
Localhost is a term used to describe a local server that you can only see for yourself on the local network, which means that other users connected to the internet cannot yet access your site.
If you forget your WordPress admin password at localhost, then you cannot set or reset your password using the options that WordPress gives you, namely reset password.
Reset password using your email to send a link to reset your WordPress password. Because your WordPress is still on a local server, WordPress cannot send email because the server needs to enable the mail function. And this mail function is disabled by default on the local server which means WordPress won’t be able to send a password reset email to your email address.
But you don’t need to worry, because there are ways to reset your WordPress password on localhost as I will explain below.
Here’s how to recover localhost WordPress password:
1. Access your WordPress database by typing url localhost / phpmyadmin
2. Search your database name located on the left of the phpmyadmin page.
3. Click _users and look for your login, if you find it please click edit as follows
* Note the red circle above in the user pass, that’s what you have to edit. Suppose you want to reset your password with “admin” as well and after that in the Function section you select MD5 type admin next to the MD5 column.
If you have immediately clicked Go, after that try to access your WordPress Admin page again, and type in the user and password with the admin user and admin password. So now you can log into your localhost account again.
Above is an easy guide on how to recover a WordPress password offline or on localhost, I hope this article was helpful for you and you can start working with WordPress on your local server. Good luck 🙂
