How to Create an Online Digital Store With WordPress – Part 2 – Continuing the previous tutorial to create online store digital with Easy Digital Download, where I explain what features the plugin provides, now I will explain how to install and general settings for the EDD plugin. Easy Digital Downloads is the perfect solution for creating ‘digital shop‘to sell digital and virtual products exclusively.
Easy Digital Downloads Installation
Like other WordPress plugins, installing the EDD plugin is very simple. If you are new to this then here are a few easy steps. Please go to your WordPress Dashboard, click the Plugins menu and select Add New. Type “Easy Digital Download” in the plugin search field and once it appears click the Install Now button. After installing, just click Activate Plugin.
After the installation of the EDD plugin, you can easily adjust its settings according to your needs. and a new menu will appear called “Downloads”. And when you click it, different sub-menus will appear, here are some sub-menus on the Download menu:
- All Downloads
- Add New
- Payment History
- Discount Codes
Later in this series, I’ll take each of the subsections separately and explain how you can configure the various settings within them. But first I’ll start with the submenu Settings.
Settings in EDD
In the Settings submenu you can adjust some basic settings before proceeding, here are some of the menus in the sub menu I will explain, you can configure the Settings menu with six different tabs, namely:
- Payment Gateway
In General Settings, the first tab is for settings on the General tab. Let’s look into the various options and menus this will lead to in setting up a digital shop.
On this checkout page there is a drop-down menu where you will set the Checkout page. This page will help customers to complete product transactions purchased. This page is automatically created when you install the plugin, and select the Checkout page.
The Success Page, if configured, will show customers how successful it is in the buying process. Set the respective page from the drop-down list, which will take the customer to a page that will notify them of successful transactions, select the page named “Purchase Confirmations”, this page is also automatically created during installation.
Failed Transaction Page
This page will show customers about failed purchases. Select the respective page from the drop-down list that will redirect the customer in case of a Failed Transaction and please select “Failed Transactions Page”.
Purchase History Page
The next option is for a Purchase History Page which will inform customers of their purchase history on your digital online shop, from start to date. Like the other options discussed above, you will again select the appropriate page from the drop-down list.
Base Country and Base State
You can add your base country from where you use the shop and its products. Click the drop-down menu and select your country. and for the menu below, please select your province.
In the currency settings, you can choose dollars ($) because rupiah is not yet in the EDD plugin settings, then on the menu below there are 2 options for Currency positions, before $ 10 and after $ 10, select before $ 10 for standard settings.
In the payment gateways menu, it is a settings menu for the payment system used, in the free version of the EDD plugin there are 3 payment methods, standard Paypal, Test Payment and Amazon. In this setting you can check more than one payment method, but at the default gateway, just select the one that is your priority.
For example, I will check the Paypal Standard payment method, you just need to enter your paypal email address in the column below, namely: Paypal Email. If you also activate the Amazon method, of course for this setting, you also sell your goods on Amazon and you can connect Easy digital download with Amazon.
In this email menu you are required to enter your name, logo of your shop, your email, email subject and email heading. Besides that, you can also easily modify the contents of the email and its attributes in the column provided, there is already a tag that you can use along with the description. You can make it easy. The email has two recipients, namely for buyers and notifications for you as a digital shop owner.
This setting is more for settings for users when making purchases at your online digital shop. Here are some basic settings on the Misc menu: Give permission whether the user must register before buying, create a term of agreement, deactivate purchases for guest users, set a redirect checkout and limit the expired link time to download.
