How to Remove Old Post Revisions in WordPress – Post revision is one of the coolest features of WordPress since version 2.6. WordPress Automatically saves post revisions, so you can restore them in case things happen like power outages, browser crashes, computer crashes etc. that require you to leave your posts without being able to save them. If you save a post or page several times, then the number of revisions will significantly increase.
For example if you have 200 posts with 10 revisions each, you can save 2,000 copies of the data. And of course it’s mostly unnecessary. Each additional revision will increase the size of your database making processing times slower and heavier.
In my previous article with the title 7 frequently overlooked WordPress features, there I provide a tutorial to limit the number of post revisions, so that you can minimize the number of post revisions saved, thus saving the database.
How to Remove Old Post Revisions in WordPress
In this article, I will share with you a plugin called Better Delete Revision which allows you to delete old revised posts, pages and related meta content in full. It also has the option to optimize the database both to reduce the size and also to speed up the database processing.
The first thing you need to do is install and activate the plugin Better Delete Revision. After you activate the plugin, new options will appear under the Settings tab (Settings »Better Delete Revision).
After you click on the option link, you will be taken to the “Better Delete Revision Manager” settings page which contains statistics on how many redundant post revisions have been deleted since you started using the plugin. It also lets you check post revisions which can be deleted, and there is also a button to optimize your database.
You can click check revisions post to see a list of post revisions that can be deleted. There will be a button to delete all revisions.
However, if you use a plugin caching WordPress, this can be removed when you optimize the database in the caching plugin you use. So, if you are already using a caching plugin for WordPress then it is no longer necessary for you to use the “Better Delete Revision” plugin on your WordPress blog.
Please try the tutorial how to delete post revision of WordPress above, and I hope your site becomes lightweight with the help of these plugins and gets better rankings in search engines. Hope it is useful. 🙂
