How to Export and Import WordPress Widgets – WordPress does not have a function to export or import widgets. It can be confusing if you want to transfer widgets from another site to another.
If you deactivate the WordPress theme and activate another WordPress theme, the widget settings can sometimes be lost as well. I experienced this myself when I changed my blog and made changes to a new blog. As a result of this, I had to configure a few more widgets. But for those of you who experience this, you don’t need to worry, because there are plugins that can help export and import widgets.
In this article, I want to show you two WordPress widget import export plugins that can help you backup, transfer, and restore WordPress widgets.
1. Importer & Exporter Widget
Importer & Exporter Widget is a plugin that allows you to backup widgets in JSON format with a .wie extension. All you have to do is click on the export widget button to download a backup of all your widgets.
Widget importer & Exporter
Here are the plugin’s test results, As you can see, the plugins are imported to the new site. But not everything looks like it can be imported because there are plugins that haven’t been installed. Widgets for plugins that are not activated on the site you import will certainly not be imported either.
2. Widget Settings Importer / Exporter
Another good option is Widget settings Importer / Exporter
. If you want more control over what widgets you want to backup, this plugin can give you options, so you don’t need all of them.
Export your Widget
If the sidebar is not available during the import process, the widget will not be imported. Hence it’s best to make sure that you have the same theme enabled on the export and import site.
If you are looking to transfer widgets from one site to another, or if you just want to keep a backup of your widgets, then I recommend trying the Importer & Exporter Widget or the Importer / Exporter Settings Widget. Both plugins are easy to use and will make it easier for you to do widget settings.
